Grace Kennedy had a fantastic time as a VIP guest at the Royal Variety Performance last night at the Hammersmith Apollo.

Having received an invitation to the prestigious annual event, Grace was amazed to find that she was sitting only 6 seats away from HRH Prince Charles and Camilla in the royal seats!

Charles was very dapper in his tuxedo with checked black and white pocket square, and Camilla looked amazing in her full-length red lace dress and matching wrap.

Host David Walliams was highly entertaining as always, getting the show off to a bang by arriving on stage sitting on a rocket that had been suspended above the set, with great use of pyrotechnics for the flames shooting out the back of it.  He had the audience in hysterics especially when he approached the royal couple asking to see their tickets!

The impressive line-up featured Sting, Lady Gaga, Gary Barlow, Robbie Williams, DNCE, Diversity, Amber Riley, Joe Lycett, Emeli Sande, Alan Davies, Rob Beckett, Britain’s Got Talent winner, magician Richard Jones and star of the show, Barry Gibb.

During the show there was a moving tribute to some of the stars that we have sadly lost this year including Sir Terry Wogan, Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, Prince and Victoria Wood, with  Bowie and Prince both drawing huge applause from the audience.

After Prince Charles and Camilla had met the cast of stars, all the performers waited on stage as the royal couple left the building. Grace noticed Lady Gaga break away from the performers waiting on the stage to walk over to the orchestra where she thanked them personally for their support.  A very nice gesture that spoke volumes.

The party continued well into the early hours at the after show party in the Grosvenor House Hotel.  Hosted by Denise van Outen, the Royal Variety theme continued with huge wall-sized screens showing previous Royal Variety icons including Aretha Franklin and the late Sammy Davis Jr.

The event brought back many happy memories for Grace who starred in the show in 1980 and 1983 during her glittering career as a singer, dancer, actress and television presenter.  It was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with her celebrity friends past and present.
